Organ & Tissue Donation
Registration, consent, legal framework, and medical limitations
Organ donation is a profound, voluntary act of humanity that can save up to 8 lives and restore sight or function for up to 10 additional individuals through tissue donation. MedFind supports organ donation awareness in alignment with Bangladesh's Human Organ Transplantation Act, 1999 (amended 2018) and the guidelines of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Please read the following carefully before registering or making any decisions regarding organ donation.
Donatable Organs
  • Heart, lungs, liver, kidneys (both)
  • Pancreas, small intestine
  • Corneas, skin, bone, heart valves
  • Tendons, cartilage, blood vessels
Who Can Register
  • Any person aged 18 years or older
  • Sound mental capacity at time of consent
  • No requirement of perfect health
  • Family notification is strongly recommended
Important Limitations
  • Most transplants require brain-death certification by a medical panel
  • Suitability of organs is determined at time of death — not at registration
  • Medical teams may not be able to honour all donor wishes
  • Living donation is only legally permitted between closely related kin
Legal Framework (Bangladesh)
  • Human Organ Transplantation Act, 1999
  • Amendment Act, 2018 — expanded donor pool
  • DGHS-approved transplant hospitals only
  • Commercial organ trading is a criminal offence

For official organ donor registration, transplant hospital listings, and the National Organ Transplant Programme, contact the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) at dghs.gov.bd or call the health helpline 16167. MedFind's donor registry is supplementary and informational only.
